Accessibility & Cross Browser Support

Having worked in the website design team for a major multi-national company for over 10 years, I have experience of building websites from the ground up in such a way that they appeal to the greatest audience possible. I am familiar with the unique issues that all the major browsers present and I am skilled in writing code that will ensure that sites function and are represented well no matter what system is used to access them.

I am committed to coding pages using semantic HTML in order to provide the best foundation for ensuring accessibility for all users whether they are using screen readers, audio browsers or just needing extra help from the page they are looking at. In addition, I am familiar with all legal and idealised legislation that underpins current web accessibility guidelines.

Copy Writing

As an English Graduate and a former secondary school English teacher, I am very familiar with what makes good writing and specifically, what makes good copy writing.

In starting my own e-commerce business I have built up knowledge and skills which I use on a daily basis to successfully promote my business on the internet especially on social media, such as Twitter and Facebook as well as advertising hosted on blogs and other sites. I am familiar with the requirements in copy writing for effective Search Engine Optimisation and web page accessibility and have experience in keyword placement for both Google and Alexa page rankings. I have experience working with SEO consultants and understand how to execute their recommendations when writing text.

I have worked in London, New York and Amsterdam as well as in Coventry where I now live. I have worked with charities and businesses from small one-man start-ups to major multi-nationals. I was commercial manager at Fujifilm GS responsible for 23 staff and a sales target of over £40M.

I now work for a business consultancy based in Coventry providing a range of services for both the private and public sector, mainly based around business transformation, sales and marketing. Our consultancy provides project management oversight using Prince2 and PMO. We have experience of working alongside web design companies and their clients having recently project managed a national website for a major clothing firm.

Graphics & Design

With a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and New Media, I have over 10 years experience working for a range of clients in the commercial sector. As the Creative Concepts and New Media Designer for a high-profile design and advertising agency, I specialised in graphic design and website design for medium to large UK clients working on some highly recognised and respected international projects such as IBM, Jet Petrol, Ramada, Tia Maria, WKD, Sony Playstation, the UK Drum & Bass Awards, Hostmark, Bateman & Chapman and Motorsport UK. My designs were highly regarded and were featured in the UK Create Online magazine and awarded the worldwide Flashkit Website of Month award.

More recently I have been working for Warwickshire Council on developing social networks for a series of community based projects that equip people to collaborate on local authority decision making processes. My collective experience in highly creative design and functional, interactive web based applications have enabled me to work for a diverse range of clients.

Search Engine Optimisation

Having worked on e-commerce websites for over five years I have gained a good working knowledge of the requirements of effective Search Engine Optimisation. I have experience in the key requirements of keyword identification, optimising website architecture, link building, social marketing and optimisation of pay per click marketing such as Google AdWords.

I have worked on a variety of websites including very technical e-commerce websites, bespoke brochure sites and an online shop for an increasingly successful small business. In each case the level of targeted traffic has increased by up to three times the initial level, thus maximising the owners return on their investment. There is no type of website which cannot benefit from some level of SEO and in each case I enjoy the challenge of producing provable results.

Current role:  Training, consultancy and web-based solutions for collaborative working and systems enhancement, particularly within the sphere of education.

Skills:  Understanding the world clients inhabit in order to enable effective delivery of the right technical solution and the necessary training to accompany it. Teaching people a philosophy of learning which enables them to develop skills. Effective utilisation of open source software and adapting it to deliver required outcomes.
